Bloomberg ranked 48 countries on life expectancy and per capita health care costs. The U.S. ranked 46th. Only Serbia and Brazil were worse than the U.S. in the chart that highlights the tremendous gap between the soaring cost of medical treatment in the U.S. and its quality and effectiveness. Sen. Bernie Sanders favors a single-payer system that would cover everyone, cost less but get better results. He spoke out for such a Medicare-for-all health care system at a news conference last month on the anniversary of passage of Medicare.
