Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) released the following statement today after voting for the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (H.R. 2): This year's farm bill delivers on many important priorities for Marylanders. Among its many positive provisions, the bill increases funding to maintain the health and vitality of the Chesapeake Bay and includes several key pieces of the Chesapeake Bay Farm Enhancement Act a bill that I cosponsored to help farmers reduce nutrient and sediment pollution in surrounding watersheds. The farm bill also increases funding for telemedicine programs, substance use disorder treatment and other critical health care services in rural communities. I want to applaud the efforts of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for casting aside partisan poison pills like drastically cutting funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and working together to get this crucial and beneficial piece of legislation across the finish line. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
