The 36 students represent 14 different high schools across the 10th congressional district. To kick off the STEAM Scholar Program, the students joined Rep. Schneider at Abbott Laboratories for a wide-ranging conversation with several of the company’s scientists and a tour of a virology lab. Rep. Schneider speaks to new STEAM Scholars during a visit to Abbott Laboratories. “I’m thrilled to announce 36 new STEAM Scholars who, over the next few months, will have a valuable opportunity to meet with some of Lake, Cook and McHenry counties’ technology leaders to explore different professional paths they might want to pursue after high school,” said Schneider. “The 10th district is home to many world class industries and institutions that offer exceptional career opportunities. Our first stop at Abbott Laboratories gave students a chance to see scientists working in the virology lab researching infectious diseases and hear how they are working to prevent the next pandemic.” Rep. Schneider welcomes 36 new STEAM Scholars from 14 IL-10 high schools. Launched in 2018, Rep. Schneider’s STEAM Scholar Program is an educational opportunity for high school students in IL-10. The program aims to connect highly motivated students interested in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) careers with hands-on learning experiences throughout the district. STEAM Scholars tour Abbott’s virology lab and meet with scientists. During the 2024-2025 academic year, students will visit four STEAM-related businesses and facilities where they will participate in discussions with local employees, business leaders and educators, and learn more about the STEAM career opportunities. The 2024-2025 class of STEAM Scholars includes: 1. Amritha Praveen Adlai E. Stevenson High School 2. Samarth Donapati Adlai E. Stevenson High School 3. Rhubyn Letuchy Adlai E.
