The bill would designate the Comstock Park Post Office as the “Captain Miguel Justin Nava Post Office.” Captain Nava was a widely admired and respected member of the Comstock Park community, a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, and a decorated Marine officer. He was tragically killed in a helicopter training exercise in February of this year while serving his country. To honor Captain Nava and his family, Scholten introduced the bill to rename the post office. “Captain Nava left a lasting impact on his community and all the people he loved. Renaming this post office is a way to cement his legacy and ensure our community has a permanent reminder of a great man, a stand-up West Michigander, and an American hero,” said Scholten. “I am honored to have introduced this bill and advocated for its passage. It is the least I could do for a man who gave everything for his country and his Gold Star family. As the legislative term comes to a close, I am urging my Senate colleagues to swiftly pass this legislation and provide Captain Nava the enduring honor that he deserves for his service to our nation.” Scholten led a moment of silence for Captain Nava and his fellow Marines earlier this year. She joined the Nava Family in welcoming his body back to Michigan at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Throughout the time she has championed the bill, her office received an outpouring of support from both the Comstock Park community and local veterans advocates.
