On Wednesday, Congresswoman Sewell joined the Alabama delegation in sending a letter to President Obama urging him to declare a major disaster in the State of Alabama. She also joined the delegation in requesting individual assistance for families in certain counties that experienced property damage and/or loss. I am pleased that President Obama honored our request to declare a major disaster in the State of Alabama. I am also pleased that those families that experienced property damage or loss in Jefferson County will be eligible to apply for individual assistance from FEMA, said Rep. Sewell. Today, I took a tour through Bessemer with several state and local officials. It gave me the opportunity to witness firsthand the devastation which better helped me advocate for the declaration. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
