Sewell Sworn into Office as 113th Congress Begins 2013-01-05 2013 2013-01 Democrat House AL Terri Sewell S001185 sewell.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Representative Terri Sewell (D-AL) today was sworn into office for her second term in the U.S. House of Representatives on the opening day of the 113th Congress. I am deeply honored to represent the people of Alabama's 7th Congressional District for a second term, Rep. Sewell said. There is still much work to do and I remain committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and President Obama to reduce our deficit, strengthen our economy and create American jobs. Rep. Sewell was selected to serve on the Financial Services Committee which has jurisdiction over the financial services and housing sectors, including banking, securities, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing. In the 7th District, Birmingham ranks as one of the most important business centers in the Southeastern United States and is also one of the largest banking centers in the United States. I am honored to join the Financial Services Committee, said Rep. Sewell. I look forward to using my 15 years of experience as a finance attorney to promote economic development in my district, strengthen consumer protections and ensure adequate regulation within the banking industry. ### Contact: Rob NeSmith; rob.nesmith@mail.house.gov; 202.225.2665 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
