Sewell on CBO Score: Trumpcare Will Cost Lives 2017-05-24 2017 2017-05 Democrat House AL Terri Sewell S001185 sewell.house.gov     legacy Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report showing that the healthcare repeal bill which passed the House this May would eliminate healthcare coverage for 23 million Americans. For sick patients in states which waive essential health requirements, CBO predicts that healthcare coverage could become unaffordable and likely unattainable. Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) releases the following statement: “Today’s new score from the CBO confirms that Trumpcare still contains the same terrible policies that have mobilized Americans nationwide against the GOP healthcare repeal bill,” said Rep. Sewell. “This bill remains a bad deal for Alabamians – eliminating coverage for 23 million Americans, cutting Medicaid by $834 billion and penalizing older Americans and those with pre-existing conditions. That is a lose-lose proposition for the American people.” “Make no mistake, a bill that kicks 23 million people off of insurance will cost lives. Our access to affordable care is a fundamental right, not a privilege, and I will continue to oppose any legislation that takes that right away from millions of Americans.” ### Rep. Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) is serving her fourth term representing Alabama’s 7th Congressional district. She sits on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and was recently appointed to the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. Sewell is a Chief Deputy Whip and serves on the prestigious Steering and Policy Committee of the Democratic Caucus. She is also a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, and serves as Vice Chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus, and Vice Chair of Outreach for the New Democrat Coalition. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
