Sewell. “These brave men and women make our country a safer place and afford us the freedom to enjoy our way of life. We are indebted to our veterans for their service, and here in Congress, I have made it a top priority to ensure that our veterans receive the care and benefits they have earned. Now more than ever, we must renew our commitment to providing support for our 22 million veterans and their families, including over 38,000 veterans right here in the 7th Congressional District of Alabama. No just today, but every day, we should celebrate their service.” On Friday, November 10, Rep. Sewell spoke at a wreath laying ceremony at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) in remembrance of deceased veterans. Rep. Sewell is an original co-sponsor of the Wage Adjustment for Veterans Enrolled in School Act, legislation introduced on Thursday, November 9, to strengthen minimum wage standards for veteran students enrolled in a work study program. Under current law, work study programs for veteran students require only that students be paid at least state and federal minimum wage. As more and more cities enact a minimum wage, the Wage Adjustment for Veterans Enrolled in School Act would ensure that veteran student wages match the minimum wage of their non-veteran coworkers. ### Rep. Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) is serving her fourth term representing Alabama’s 7th Congressional district. She sits on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and was recently appointed to the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.
