https://sewell.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/sen-donnelly-follows-through-friendly-wager-rep-sewell Sen. Donnelly Follows Through on Friendly Wager with Rep. Sewell 2013-01-25 2013 2013-01 Democrat House AL Terri Sewell S001185 sewell.house.gov     legacy Washington, DC Today, newly-elected Senator Joe Donnelly (D-IN) made good on his friendly wager with Congresswoman Terri Sewell (D-AL). Sen. Donnelly and Rep. Sewell wagered on the BCS National Championship game that featured a highly anticipated matchup between Alabama and Notre Dame. Alabama won the game with a resounding 42-14 victory to claim its third national title in four years. Sen. Donnelly was a good sport and upheld his end of the wager as he wore an Alabama tie and delivered South Bend Company Chocolates to Rep. Sewell and her staff. " I am thrilled that the Crimson Tide became the first ever back-to-back National Champions of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) era, said Rep. Sewell. Both teams should be applauded for their successful seasons. Senator Donnelly was a great sport as he wore the Alabama tie and Bear Bryant signature hat when he delivered South Bend Chocolates to our staff. I look forward to Alabama continuing its winning tradition next season. If we keep the streak alive, I may not be able to get another Member of Congress to make a friendly wager for fear of losing. It's a nice problem to have. Roll Tide!! ### Contact: Rob NeSmith; rob.nesmith@mail.house.gov; 202.225.2665 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
