| https://sewell.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/statement-congresswoman-sewell-conversion-alabama-power-facility-greene | Statement from Congresswoman Sewell on Conversion of Alabama Power Facility in Greene County | 2014-08-01 | 2014 | 2014-08 | Democrat | House | AL | Terri Sewell | S001185 | sewell.house.gov | legacy | Washington, DC Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement following an announcement by Alabama Power to convert to natural gas at its steam plant in Greene County: "While I respect the recent business decision made by Alabama Power to convert to natural gas at its facility in Greene County, I am disappointed that such a decision will negatively impact the employment opportunities in a county that can least absorb its effect. I strongly believe in government's role in environmental policy; however I also believe that we must have a balanced approach to federal regulation such that the costs are weighed with the effects on job growth and economic impact. Although we must prepare to diversify our energy production, I am committed to supporting coal as a viable source of energy in Alabama until alternatives become more economically feasible. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
