Brown (OH-11) released the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Cleveland Department of Health would receive $500,000 to expand Cleveland's air monitoring network. "To adequately address decades of health and environmental injustice, we must work toward ensuring underserved communities receive funding to address poor air quality," said Rep. Brown. "Increased investment in Cleveland's air monitoring will allow the Department of Public Health to engage communities in dialogue, collect additional data for those who still experience negative health outcomes, and implement public health interventions. This is a major step towards addressing regional health and environmental disparities." The Cleveland Health Department is one of 132 air monitoring projects in 37 states across the country that would receive $53.4 million in funding to enhance air quality monitoring. The grants will be given to communities with disparate environmental and health outcomes attributable to pollution and the COVID-19 pandemic.
