Congressman Jared Moskowitz (FL-23) is co-leading this legislation. UNIFIL was created nearly 50 years ago to help secure the Israel-Lebanon border and stop Hezbollah from gaining strength. Instead, Hezbollah has become a heavily armed, Iranian-backed terrorist organization that continues to threaten the United States, Israel, and our allies. Despite billions of dollars over decades, UNIFIL has failed to stop Hezbollah’s buildup or prevent continued instability along the border. Last year, the United Nations Security Council voted to extend UNIFIL’s mandate for a final time and directed the mission to cease operations on December 31, 2026. Shreve’s legislation codifies that position by ensuring American tax dollars can no longer fund UNIFIL or any successor mission. “Hoosiers expect Washington to spend their tax dollars with discipline and accountability,” said Congressman Shreve. “UNIFIL has failed that test. It has not stopped Hezbollah’s buildup. It has not secured lasting stability along the Israel-Lebanon border.
