Before serving in Congress, Congresswoman Sinema worked as a social worker at Shaw Butte Elementary School and served Windrose Villas families. “I started my career as a social worker in Sunnyslope and worked every day to help families at Windrose Villas,” said Congresswoman Sinema. “I ran for office to help families in Sunnyslope and all across Arizona have the chance to achieve the American Dream. Access to books is an important part of academic success, and I’m honored to work with Southwest Human Development to open these libraries for Windrose families.” The Little Free Library program encourages communities to build and install free-standing, outdoor boxes that provide a free neighborhood book exchange. Southwest Human Development plans to build 100 Little Free Libraries across the Valley by the end of the year. In addition to the Little Free Libraries, Dunlap & Magee Property Management, in partnership with the City of Phoenix Housing Department and the Arizona Multihousing Association, has launched the Raise a Reader program at Windrose Villas. This free 10-15 week early literacy and family engagement program helps parents and children develop, practice, and sustain interactive reading routines.
