The Farm Bill sets the nation's agriculture and nutrition policy. Partisan provisions inserted into the bill earlier this year had delayed its passage, but those partisan provisions have now been dropped. Sinema, who had strongly urged Congress to stop "playing politics with family farmers and our economy," praised today's passage of the bipartisan bill. "This is good news for Arizona, and shows what can get done when leaders stop playing games and start working together," said Sinema, who will be sworn in next month as Arizona's next Senator. "This strong bipartisan Farm Bill gives Arizona farmers and ranchers the certainty they need to stay on the land and the opportunity to build a stronger future - and it puts food on the table for Arizona families. I'm proud to help push it across the finish line." The Arizona Farm Bureau praised Sinema's consistent support for a bipartisan Farm Bill. "This Farm Bill is the right bill at the right time. Farm families across the nation, and here in Arizona, are struggling. Net farm incomes are in the sharpest decline since the Great Depression, current trade policies threaten our access to international markets and our ongoing drought conditions create additional uncertainty. The 2018 Farm Bill protects the rural economy, maintains our commitment to working lands conservation, improves essential risk management tools, and improves access to credit - all while remaining budget-neutral. In addition to farm and conservation programs, the Farm Bill also provides crucial nutrition assistance to underprivileged families across our nation. We are pleased to see that the 2018 Farm Bill maintains funding and protects access for families who need a hand up while closing loopholes exploited by those who seek a hand out.
