This week, as the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States soars above 10 million, the Trump Administration is in court pursuing its final effort to dismantle and destroy the Affordable Care Act. This reckless case to destroy the one law that provides protections for tens of thousands of Virginians with pre-existing conditions comes before the U.S. Supreme Court at a time when the pandemic is spiking in many areas of the country and millions of Americans are evaluating next year's options during the open enrollment period. The White House's lawsuit is and always has been about scoring short-lived partisan points but the consequences for working families, seniors, and Americans with preexisting conditions would be all too permanent. Destroying our existing healthcare system, with no alternative plan in place, would reverse Medicaid expansion in our Commonwealth and jeopardize Central Virginians' ability to pay for their prescriptions, access necessary care, and get the preventative screenings and vaccines that are foundational to long term health. Healthcare, particularly the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs, is still the number one concern of working families in my district.
