https://spano.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=2350 Rep. Spano Puts Concern for National Debt Ahead of $1.4 Trillion in Appropriations 2019-12-17 2019 2019-12 Republican House FL Ross Spano S001210 spano.house.gov     legacy Representative Ross Spano (Florida-15) released the following statement regarding H.R. 1158 and H.R. 1865, collectively known as the Consolidated Appropriations Package. Today, I voted no' on both H.R. 1158 and H.R. 1865. While there are worthwhile aspects of both bills, such as maintaining pro-life protections, border wall funding, and Second Amendment protections, I find the overall price tag troubling. The national debt exceeded $23 trillion this fall, and it is irresponsible to vote in favor of a $1.4 trillion spending package with less than 24 hours to review. I have said this before, and will say it again: I did not come to Washington to be a rubber stamp. We cannot in good conscience ask the American people to be responsible with their personal finances, while their government is on an out-of-control spending spree. H.R. 1158 includes provisions for Defense; Commerce, Justice, Science, Financial Services and General Government, and Homeland Security. H.R. 1865 includes provisions for Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, Agriculture, Energy and Water, Interior, Legislative Branch, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, State and Foreign Operations, and Transportation and Housing. Both bills now await Senate approval. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
