Spartz’s third trip to Ukraine since the Russian invasion began on February 24 and follows her recent calls for proper oversight of the U.S. aid being sent into the country following the signingof the Ukraine Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022. “The American people are generous people, but as a Congress, we must ensure taxpayer resources are reaching those in need and being used efficiently. We also need to understand the situation on the ground to implement proper strategies,"said Rep. Spartz. Rep. Spartz has led those voicescalling for Congressional oversightof all U.S. aid to Ukraine and has called on House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform Chairwoman, Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), to hold a hearing to evaluate the federal government’s performance in the distribution of U.S. humanitarian and security assistance. Today, Rep. Spartz co-chaired the first classified oversight House hearing on Ukraine, more are expected in the future. Since the start of the conflict, Spartz has visited numerous regions in Europe asking the tough questions of government officials in each place.
