ALBUQUERQUE — Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) visited a job site at the University of New Mexico Hospital with CEO Kate Becker and Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 16 in Albuquerque to highlight the benefits of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and speak about the urgent need to prioritize health care infrastructure to protect New Mexico’s health care workers and communities. “Today we toured the University of New Mexico Hospital expansion project, one of our state’s largest public constitution projects in history, and a prime example of how all levels of government can collaborate to build critical infrastructure like those funded in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This bill will bring more than $3.7 billion to New Mexico to upgrade our infrastructure while creating thousands of good-paying jobs for New Mexicans,” said Rep. Stansbury. “At a time when New Mexico is facing a surge in COVID-19 cases, projects like the UNMH construction site are critical to ensuring we can meet the health care needs of our state. The bipartisan infrastructure bill makes billions of dollars in crucial investments in New Mexico’s infrastructure to modernize our infrastructure and grow our economy. The visit follows a historic month of action in Congress, including the passage of the once-in-a-generation Build Back Better Act that passed the House of Representatives and the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act signed into law in November. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will create jobs for New Mexicans by investing more than $3.7 billion in New Mexico’s broadband, water, roads, bridges, public transportation, electric vehicle, airport and other infrastructure. The legislation will modernize America’s crumbling infrastructure for the 21st century while supporting small businesses, resources for working families, and rebuilding for a more climate resilient future.
