Greg Stanton announced that the City of Tempe will receive more than $12 million in federal funds through theSafe Streets and Roads for All grant program—funded under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law—to improve safety and visibility along a 3.9 mile stretch of Baseline Road that saw 35 fatal or serious-injury crashes between 2017 and 2021. Specifically, the funds will be used to execute strategies identified in the City’s Vision Zero Action Plan, including dedicated turn lanes, improved pedestrian crosswalks, delineated bike lanes, and technology to improve traffic flow to reduce crashes along the roadway. “Our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to get Arizona communities like Tempe the resources they need to invest in our roadways and make them safer and more accessible for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians,” said Stanton. “The goal of Tempe’s Vision Zero Action Plan is to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries. One way we can do that is making our street infrastructure safer.
