The Family Care Act (H.R. 4095) expands the Child Tax Credit for families with permanently or totally disabled dependents over the age of 16. The Child Tax Credit is worth up to $2,000 per qualifying dependent. Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) joined Stauber in introducing this legislation. Of his legislation, Stauber said, "As a parent of a special needs child, I know that the limit to what individuals with disabilities can accomplish is not determined by their condition, but by how much we empower them. That's why I was proud to introduce the Family Care Act, which will ensure families are able to afford the necessary care and services to help their disabled loved ones lead happy and successful lives." Ashley Helsing, Director of Government Relations for the National Down Syndrome Society stated, "It is vital that all individuals with disabilities receive a fair shot at leading a life of meaning and purpose.
