This has been a consistent theme as Ive visited schools across the district and held many meetings with teachers and school officials. This legislation provides the first update to No Child Left Behind in the last decade and will strengthen our education system so students are better prepared for Higher Education and a 21st Century Workforce. Furthermore, it was important to me that this legislation addresses significant concerns that I share with my constituents regarding Common Core. I am pleased that this legislation would prohibit the Secretary of Education from forcing, incentivizing, or coercing states into adopting Common Core. And important to the Fort Drum community, this legislation strengthens Impact Aid an important resource for North Country schools that are home to many military families. This is bipartisan legislation that is needed to give power back to state and local governments and I am pleased that the President has signed it into law.
