(December 11, 2024) - Today, the House of Representatives passed legislation Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) helped lead, H.R. 8753. This bill directs the United States Postal Service (USPS) to designate single, unique ZIP Codes for certain communities. Communities in Wisconsin and across the country currently face challenges with misdirected mail, delays in emergency service response times, higher insurance rates, confusion with local taxes and tax rebates, confusion over polling places, incorrect jury summons, and other community identity issues, including negative financial impacts to local governments, landlords, and businesses. Specifically, this legislation will alleviate the unnecessary complications due to varying zip codes by directing USPS to create zip codes that align with municipal boundaries.
