During the hearing, Steil focused on the impact of current economic trends on midwestern manufacturing communities and policies that will strengthen our supply chains and manufacturing industries across the United States. Rising inflation for necessities like food and energy, tight supply chains, and shortages, including skilled worker shortages, are hitting family budgets. Too often, policymakers and newsmakers in Washington overlook or ignore what is happening in the Midwest. Wisconsin has long been a leader for American manufacturing and our workers can compete with anyone in the world, if given a fair shake. Unfortunately, proposals to raise taxes on American production or block private sector investments in infrastructure lead us in the wrong direction. I am eager to work with my colleagues on this Committee to create policies that will support southeast Wisconsin workers and families.
