The final tax bill fails to achieve these objectives. Earlier this year, I introduced a balanced budget amendment to address the excessive federal debt, which is a threat to our economic stability, our national security, and the Social Security and Medicare benefits that our seniors have earned through a lifetime of hard work. The Republican tax bill, even under optimistic economic growth estimates, will still add over a trillion dollars to our debt. I cannot in good conscience support legislation that compromises the long-term prosperity of our economy and safety of our nation, especially when millions of middle-class families and small businesses in Florida will see their tax bill increase or will receive no meaningful tax relief under this bill. ### U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy represents Floridas Seventh Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she serves on the House Armed Services Committee and Small Business Committee. The district includes all of Seminole County and much of northern Orange County, including downtown Orlando, Maitland, Winter Park, and the University of Central Florida. Previously, Murphy was a businesswoman and college instructor who also served as a national security specialist in the Office of the Secretary of Defense where she received numerous awards for her distinguished service, including the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service.
