Murphy issued the following statement on her vote:"Congresss constitutional responsibility is to fund the federal government. A Congress that allows the government to shut down, even for a short period, is a Congress that has failed to fulfill its most fundamental duty. A government shutdown would cause severe hardship for millions of Americans, especially seniors, military veterans, children, students, and every community who depends onand whose taxes pay fora functioning government. A shutdown would also compromise the ability of our armed forces, our homeland security professionals, and our federal law enforcement officers to keep our nation safe. "Over the next month, it is essential for Congress to work together in a bipartisan way to pass a comprehensive bill to fund the federal government through the end of the fiscal year, reauthorize CHIP, Community Health Centers and other expired public health programs, and enact an enduring solution for the 800,000 young Dreamers who have contributed so much to this country and who have earned the right to live, work and prosper here." ### U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy represents Floridas Seventh Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she serves on the House Armed Services Committee and Small Business Committee. The district includes all of Seminole County and much of northern Orange County, including downtown Orlando, Maitland, Winter Park, and the University of Central Florida.
