Michelle Hua of Troy won the competition for “Coach AI,” a smart fitness app that uses artificial intelligence-based human pose detection and recognition to provide real-time coaching for users while they exercise. The second place finisher was Kenneth Sun and team, who developed “WAM!,” and the third place finisher was Alexander Wan and team, who developed “Profero.” “Congratulations to Michelle Hua for developing a spectacular app that uses artificial intelligence to help people stay healthy,” said Congresswoman Stevens. “I was impressed by every single one of the submissions we received, and I am so proud of the talented young Michiganders who participated in this year’s competition. The Congressional App Challenge is a wonderful opportunity for Michigan students to pursue their interests in STEM. Michigan students have dealt with adversity and uncertainty in 2020, but these students are a reminder that the next generation of Michiganders are ready to innovate, solve problems, and make us all proud.” The Congressional App Challenge is designed to engage student creativity and encourage their participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education fields. This nationwide event allows high school students from across the country to compete against their peers by creating and exhibiting their software application, or "app," for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice. Entries to the competition in Michigan’s 11th District were evaluated by a national panel of experts, and reviewed for their creativity, resourcefulness, design, and skill.
