During National Police Week, we’re reminded of the sacrifices our law enforcement officers and first responders make every day to protect our families. They deserve the very best tools and resources to do their jobs safely and effectively. From upgrading emergency communications systems and replacing aging patrol vehicles to strengthening severe weather research capabilities, these investments will help keep our communities prepared, protected, and resilient for years to come. I’m proud to fight for North Alabama priorities and deliver the support our local agencies need to serve the people of our region,” said Congressman Dale Strong. The funding, approved by the Appropriations Committee during Wednesday’s markup, includes $10,244,000 for public safety improvements in North Alabama. $4,200,000 for the North Alabama Multi-Agency Crime Center to fully modernize and enhance critical communications equipment and radio systems. $2,357,000 for the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and the Athens Police Department to purchase and outfit patrol vehicles to replace the current fleet. $500,000 for the Scottsboro Police Department to acquire an armored rescue vehicle, a critical public safety asset for all of Jackson County. $420,000 for the Stevenson Police Department to acquire and outfit 7 public safety vehicles to replace current vehicles reaching the end of their operational life. $267,000 for the Trinity Police Department to upgrade patrol vehicles and equipment, upgrade evidence software, handheld radios, and other incident-response equipment. $2,500,000 for the University of Alabama in Huntsville to acquire mobile field operation components for the University’s SWIRLL laboratory to collect real-world severe weather data and advance critical research.
