During the hearing with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Strong emphasized the importance of continued federal investment in transportation infrastructure throughout a rapidly growing North Alabama. “My district in North Alabama is home to Redstone Arsenal, where more than 45,000 people commute through the gates every day, making it the single largest employment site in the state of Alabama,” said Congressman Dale Strong. Strong noted that transportation improvements are critical for both the quality of life and the continued success of North Alabama’s defense and aerospace economy. “Before thousands of Redstone civil servants, contractors, and servicemembers can get on base to carry out those critical missions, many face severe traffic congestion and infrastructure constraints surrounding the installation. These transportation bottlenecks do more than create commuter frustrations. They affect operational efficiency and create vulnerabilities around facilities essential to our national security,” said Strong. As Huntsville and North Alabama continue to grow, Strong continues to prioritize efforts to secure federal support for transportation and infrastructure improvements to improve daily commutes for families across the Tennessee Valley — using his position on the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee to advocate for investment that supports North Alabama’s growing workforce, national defense missions, and long-term economic success. Since coming to Washington, Strong has secured over $29 million in transportation-related Community Project Funding to support growth across AL-05. With the passage of the FY27 Subcommittee bill, that total will rise to over $45.6 million. Strong also emphasized a new provision in the FY27 bill that establishes a dedicated DOT grant funding opportunity set-aside for high-growth metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs), which includes the Huntsville MSA.
