U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03)hosted a Facebook Livetown hallto discussmental health support and resources available to Nevadans, especially duringthe COVID-19 pandemic.Rep. Lee was joined by mental and behavioral health professionals from Seven Hills Hospital; Southern Hills Hospital; the Nevada Department ofHealth and Human Services; VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System; and the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Southern Nevada. As a nation, we must remove the stigma around mental health, said Rep.Lee.Especially right now, in the middle of a pandemic, I will continue to push Congress to adopt policies that make it easier, not harder, for individuals suffering from mental illness to get the help they need.I can't stress how critical this is especially in Nevada, which hasone of the nation's highest suicide rates, as well as limited availability of mental health professionals. That's why I've introduced legislation tobolster mental health support in our public schools, improve suicide prevention efforts, andexpand mental health outreach for our veterans.Butall of these policy goals start with conversations like today's, and with a common understanding that anyone who needs help, should beable toget it. Leeintroduced theCommunities Serving Schools Act, which wouldprovide grants to state and local education agencies toinvest in wrap-around school services that assist with the health, well-being, and stability of students outside of the classroom, including mental health support for K-12 students. In July 2020, Rep. Lee introduced theVA Zero Suicide Demonstration Act, whichwould launch the Zero Suicide Initiative Pilot Program at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
