This funding will provide essential services, including emergency shelter and transitional housing to survivors of domestic violence, with a special focus on those who have companion animals. “The Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit and Medina County has long been a beacon of hope and support for survivors of domestic violence in our community. This grant will enable them to expand their services to accommodate the unique needs of survivors who have companion animals, allowing them to heal and rebuild their lives along with their pets,” said Rep. Sykes. “I will continue working to bring back even more federal dollars to support organizations like the Battered Women’s Shelter that provide crucial services to our community.” BWS opened the largest domestic violence shelter in the state of Ohio in 2017, a 40,000 square foot building offering 154 beds to survivors. BWS will utilize this grant to better accommodate companion animals at their shelter.
