The Social Security Fairness Act will eliminate the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) from the Social Security Act. Currently, public service employees are unable to receive their full Social Security benefits if they also receive other forms of retirement benefits, such as a pension. In November, Rep. Sykes voted in favor of the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives with an overwhelming bipartisan majority. The legislation now heads to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law. “The passage of this important legislation not only provides relief to thousands of my constituents who are frustrated they can’t receive their full Social Security benefits – it demonstrates what Congress is capable of when we work together in bipartisan fashion,” said Rep.
