Joining Congresswoman Tenney in this effort are Representatives Mike Turner (R-OH), Dan Kildee (D-MI), and Gwen Moore (D-WI). In 2009, more than 20,000 Delphi Salaried Retirees lost the full value of their retirement benefits in the aftermath of the General Motors bailout. Following the bankruptcy filing, the company surrendered its pension obligations to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation as part of its 2009 bankruptcy agreement. The Obama Administration then worked behind closed doors with union leaders to slash the pensions promised to the 20,000 non-unionized salaried staff. Earlier this year, Tenney cosponsored the Susan Muffley Act to provide backpay for the pension payments that the Delphi Salaried Retirees should have received for the past 14 years via a lump sum payment equivalent to the difference between any benefits that have paid out and what retirees would have been paid without limitations, plus 6 percent interest. Tenney also released a full documentary, which includes interviews with several impacted families and individuals from Western New York. “The Delphi Salaried Retirees have been fighting tirelessly for nearly 15 years to correct the grave injustice imposed on them by the Obama Administration,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “It is beyond time to correct this egregious wrong and pass the Susan Muffley Act to fully restore the Delphi’s pension plan with back pay. Thank you to Representatives Turner, Kildee, and Moore for their partnership on this issue and continued work advocating for the passage of the Susan Muffley Act.
