Additionally, the bill includes language to ensure non-child dependents, such as college students and adults with disabilities, are able to receive a stimulus as well. This provision is retroactive, so that eligible non-child dependents can receive a check from the first round of EIP's as well. Congressman Ryan has been calling on Congress and the President to provide more stimulus funding, including college students and adults with disabilities who are still claimed as a dependent. This would provide a long-overdue stimulus to the economy and help workers take care of the basic needs of their families. The provisions of this bill are a much-needed correction to the recently passed COVID relief bill, putting more money in the hands of hard-working families. A one-time $600 payment is simply not enough to meet the level of need within our country right now,said Congressman Ryan. Our families and small businesses are facing an unprecedented crisis and this increase will help stabilize our economy and give our families a fighting-chance to survive Congressman Ryan has long supported additional payments to Americans, and earlier this year introduced theEmergency Money for the People Act, legislation that would provide$2,000 per month until employment returns to pre-COVID-19 levels.After the President changed his mind last week and decided to support an increase in direct payments to $2,000, HouseDemocrats immediately went to the Floor to askfor Unanimous Consent to bring a stand-alone bill to increase the payments.
