https://timryan.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-tim-ryan-urges-house-leadership-and-cdc-ensure-covid-19-vaccine Congressman Tim Ryan Urges House Leadership and the CDC to Ensure COVID-19 Vaccine Goes to Frontline and Healthcare Workers and Others Before Members of Congress 2020-12-07 2020 2020-12 Democrat Senate OH Tim Ryan R000577 timryan.house.gov     legacy Washington, DC Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, US House of Representatives Attending PhysicianDr. Brian P. Monahan, and CDC Chair Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices Dr. Jose Romero calling on them to ensure first responders, frontline workers, healthcare workers, those with preexisting conditions, and the elderly are offered the COVID-19 vaccine before Members of Congress. Ensuring the vaccine goes to these groups first is the right thing to do from a moral, public health, and economic perspective, wrote Congressman Ryan. It allows frontline and healthcare workers to reduce transmission of the virus between groups that have high exposure to the public, it saves the lives of our most vulnerable populations, including those with preexisting conditions and the elderly, and it will allow us to get our economy back up and running. Congressman Ryan said in the letter that there would be an exception for Members of Congress who are in one of the listed vulnerable age groups or have a preexisting condition. Read the full text of the letterhereand below. Dear Speaker Pelosi, Dr. Monahan, and Dr. Romero, Thank you for your steadfast leadership during the pandemic and the economic crisis. As you know, the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices will determine prioritizations of vaccine administration.I write today to urge that the Office of the Attending Physician and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices refrain from disbursing or recommending disbursingthe COVID-19 vaccine to Members of Congress until after all first responders, frontline workers, healthcare workers, those with preexisting conditions, and the elderly have been offered the vaccine first, with the exception of Members of Congress in a vulnerable age group or with preexisting conditions. Over the past nine months, our nation has been gravely impacted by the pandemic, and yet many Americans have continued to carry out their duties under difficult and risky circumstances to keep our country running as smoothly as possible despite being the most at risk and putting their lives on the line. Ensuring the vaccine goes to these groups first is the right thing to do from a moral, public health, and economic perspective. It allows frontlineand healthcareworkers to reduce transmission of the virus between groups that have high exposure to the public, it saves the lives of our most vulnerable populations, includingthose with preexisting conditions and the elderly, and it will allow us to get oureconomyback up and running. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for prioritizing the Americans who need this vaccine the most and putting them ahead of Members of Congress. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
