Following the announcement, Tipton gave the following response: With any decision that could have significant impacts on the natural environment and economy of a community, it is critically important to listen to those who live there and address their concerns. The Glenwood Springs community has raised legitimate concerns how the hydrology that feeds the Glenwood Hot Springs could be impacted by drilling of test wells, and as I said in my letter, BLM should move with an abundance of caution in such a potentially fragile and not fully known hydrologic area. I am grateful that the BLM has listened to the community and am proud to have taken part in the conversations that led to this decision. Background: In June, Tipton sent a letter to the BLM's Colorado State Director Jamie Connell asking to review the concerns that Mayor of Glenwood Springs, Jonathan Godes, had addressed in regards to the mining expansion proposal. Earlier this month, Tipton spoke with Connell over the phone regarding the mine owner's intent to seek a categorical exclusion from the National Environmental Policy Act for drilling five wells as part of their overall expansion plan Tipton followed up with the phone call with an additional letter to Connell citing the concerns the community had raised on the exclusion.
