Congressman Scott Tipton (CO-03) released the following statement after the announcement: From doing homework, to managing small businesses, to providing telehealth services, broadband access is more important than ever for Americans' day-to-day living. For many Coloradans living in rural areas, access to reliable broadband has been largely unavailable or too expensive to implement. This is an issue we have been working tirelessly on, and this grant announcement is a welcome step to help get rural Colorado communities connected just the same as their urban counterparts. I appreciate the USDA considering the needs of western Colorado and using the successes of the ReConnect Pilot Program to bring rural families and businesses to the 21st Century. The USDA announcement can be found here. Background: Tipton introduced the RURAL Broadband Act earlier this year the bill seeks to eliminate duplicative measures by the USDA and the Federal Communications Committee on broadband buildout areas. Tipton is a co-sponsor of the Gigabit Opportunity Act which seeks to encourage broadband development in low-income communities. In the 115th Congress, Tipton also voted to support the Rural Broadband Permitting Act which passed the House last year. The bill sought to streamline the permitting process for broadband deployment by excluding eligible projects from National Environmental Policy Act reviews. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
