After the deadly terrorist attack in California, it makes no sense that President Obama would take these needed resources away from our local authorities who are on the front lines in the fight against terrorism. Local law enforcement officers and community leaders have told me this decision by the President puts Southeast Michigan at risk. The threat from terrorism is real and now is not the time to be limiting the tools of Americas law enforcement community. I am confident that this legislation will send a clear signal to the President that he needs to listen to our local communities and rescind this dangerous executive order, said Rep. Trott, Michigans only member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. The legislation, authored by Rep. Trott, disapproves of the Obama Administrations decision to recall vehicles under the 1033 Program, which allows the transfer of excess military equipment to civilian law enforcement agencies. Military-style vehicles were recently used by law enforcement to neutralize the terrorists involved in the San Bernardino terrorist attack and local law enforcement officials in Southeast Michigan have stated the Presidents plan to remove these vehicles will leave communities at risk. Earlier in the week, Rep. Trott led an effort in the House to urge the Obama Administration to reverse course and rescind its decision to remove these vehicles from Southeast Michigan and other communities throughout the nation.
