Carter, Sr. and Biden-Harris Administration announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will invest $420 million in 132 infrastructure projects in 31 states, including rehabilitating dams, flood prevention, and watershed protection projects. This is part of the implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Congressman Carter was proud to advocate for and help pass. He was the only member of the Louisiana Congressional House delegation to vote in support. Upon announcement, Congressman Carter released the following statement: “Investing in communities that have long been overlooked is not only the right thing to do: it helps our entire community thrive. “That’s why I’m proud to announce that three programs in rural and underserved areas of Louisiana have been selected to receive millions from the Infrastructure Law for historic investment in our watersheds, two in the Second Congressional District. These projects will help to help our communities rebuild after natural disasters and prepare and strengthen our water management systems for future events. “When I advocated and voted for the Infrastructure Law I knew it would provide a once-in-a-generation opportunity to rebuild our infrastructure and create good-paying jobs. I’m so grateful that funds are already flowing and that now Louisiana will begin seeing the results of this game-changing policy.” Funding in Louisiana will go to the following projects Bayou Baton Rouge Lafayette and St. Martin Flood Prevention Plaquemines Flood Prevention This infrastructure announcement includes funding through two programs: the Watershed and Flood Prevention Operations (WFPO) Program provides technical and financial assistance for new watershed infrastructure, and the Watershed Rehabilitation Program (REHAB) upgrades existing NRCS dams.
