https://troycarter.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-carter-statement-republicans-refusal-end-department-homeland Congressman Carter Statement on Republicans Refusal to End the Department of Homeland Security Shutdown 2026-03-27 2026 2026-03 Democrat House LA Troy A. Carter C001125 troycarter.house.gov troycarter https://troycarter.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Troy A. Carter Sr. (D-LA) released the following statement after voting NO on House Republicans’ all-or-nothing bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) without reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE): “For more than 40 days, Donald Trump and Republicans have created chaos at our airports and across critical homeland security operations, forcing TSA officers to work without pay while blocking multiple efforts to provide relief. “There is a better way. The bipartisan Senate compromise would immediately fund the TSA, Coast Guard, FEMA and our cybersecurity personnel. This agreement protects Americans safety and ensures frontline workers are paid. Instead of embracing this commonsense approach and ending this shutdown, House Republicans are pushing an all-or-nothing bill that jeopardizes progress and prolongs uncertainty. By not passing the Senate bill, Trump and House Republicans are guaranteeing the Department of Homeland Security will continue to be shutdown, refusing to work in the best interest of the American people. “That’s why I voted NO on tonight’s bill. I will continue to push for the Senate’s bipartisan solution: act now to fund critical public safety functions, pay our essential workers, and complete negotiations in good faith.” ### 1 2026-04-30T06:05:15Z 2026-04-30T06:07:09Z
