Reports indicate bipartisan support for ENDA in the House, but in recent days Speaker John Boehner has indicated that he would not bring the bill up in the House for a vote. Congresswoman Niki Tsongas released the following statement urging Speaker Boehner to allow a vote on ENDA in the House. "My late husband Paul was the first U.S. Senator to introduce legislation to ban job discrimination based on sexual orientation. That was more than 30 years ago, in 1979. I agreed with him then and feel just as strongly about championing similar measures today. "Almost directly after I was elected in 2007, I strongly supported the passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act spearheaded by my colleague Congressman Barney Frank in the House of Representatives. While ENDA passed in the House of Representatives in 2007, it did not move in the Senate. "Yesterday, the U.S. Senate passed ENDA, marking an important moment in history. It is now time for the House to act, pass ENDA and finally expand protections from employment discrimination for all.
