If approved by the full Congress, the funding will be used to construct an additional building that will include exam rooms and other resources for the food bank. The committee-passed appropriations bill awaits full consideration in the House when Congress returns in November. "The Dayton Foodbank's $2 million expansion would eliminate barriers to healthcare and create jobs, all while keeping members of the community fed, " said Rep Turner. "Advocating for this $2 million in federal funding allows me to provide for an organization that is constantly giving back to our community. I am proud to represent Dayton Foodbank and look forward to seeing how this funding allows this phenomenal organization to impact the Miami Valley region for years to come, should it pass the House." Background: The Dayton Foodbank has served as the primary source of hunger relief for the Miami Valley region for 40 years. The additional funding will allow the foodbank to partner with local hospitals to provide on-site care and additional health resources to underserved communities after receiving emergency food assistance with the aim of minimizing the barriers to accessing services due to transportation, time, and other constraints.
