Turner T000463 turner.house.gov turner https://turner.house.gov/press-releases scraper DAYTON, OHIO – Today, Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) announced that $4,492,904 in federal funds have been awarded to the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority to replace the roof and HVAC system at 600 Longworth Street in Dayton, Ohio. The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority, which serves communities within Montgomery County and parts of Greene County, was allocated funds under the Department of Transportation's Fiscal Year 2023 Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program. “A modern, well-maintained fleet and facilities are critical to serving the public transportation needs of the Dayton area,” said Congressman Mike Turner. “This funding award to the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority is an important win for the Miami Valley and will go a long way to ensuring that GDRTA employees are provided a safe and comfortable work environment.” Background: In May 2022, Congressman Mike Turner wrote a letter of support for the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority’s grant application for the Buses and Bus Facilities Program. The Buses and Bus Facilities Program provides federal funding for transit agencies to buy and rehabilitate buses and vans and build and modernize bus facilities. For Fiscal Year 2023, $473.1 million was available for grants under this program. The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority is Ohio’s fourth-largest public transit system, serving Dayton and 23 surrounding communities in Montgomery County and Greene County. The GDRTA provides more than 11 million passenger trips per year on its buses. Forty percent of GDRTA’s Fixed Route Bus fleet is comprised of Electric Hybrid Trolleys. Only five cities in the United States currently have electric trolley buses as part of their public transit fleet: Boston, Dayton, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle. Electric streetcar service in Dayton began in 1888 and has operated continuously in Dayton ever since, which is longer than in any other city in the United States. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-08T00:08:25Z
