The Veterans in STEM Act (H.R. 6140) would expand STEM scholarships for clinical health training programs. The legislation passed as a part of H.R 7105, the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act, which will now head to President Trump to be signed into law. Our nation's veterans' service and experience uniquely qualifies them to work in innovative STEM fields. That's why I've introduced the Veterans in STEM Act to provide new career opportunities to veterans and expand trainings in the health care sector that will help strengthen our economy in northern Illinois and across the county," said Underwood. "I'm pleased to see my legislation included in this historic legislative package, and I urge President Trump to immediately sign this bill into law." In addition to Underwood's provision, the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020, also includes provisions from the House passed Deborah Sampson Act to improve care for women veterans which Underwood strongly supported, along with provisions to expand veteran benefits, provide assistance to homeless veterans, and support veterans impacted by COVID-19.
