If funding is approved by the California Transportation Commission, the construction phase of the project will begin in 2025. The Draft ITIP includes $23 million in state funding. Fresno County will provide $13 million from Measure C and $10 million in local State Transportation Improvement Program dollars. The remaining $19 million will be provided by the Cal Trans State Highway Operation and Protection Program. “This six-mile gap has a long history of collisions. Since October of 2020, there have been 5 fatal collisions within this gap, and that is why I am thankful Cal Trans has taken this step toward funding this very important project,” said Congressman David G. Valadao. “Simply put, this project will save lives. It will not only improve safety, it will facilitate efficient goods movement and improve access to jobs and vital services for the primarily low-income residents in southern Fresno and northern Kings Counties. I want to thank Assemblyman Jim Patterson, Assemblyman Arambula, Senator Canallero, and everyone involved in getting us to this point.
