What resulted was an unfair process that lacked credibility and transparency and put a premium on political theater instead of facts. As the Democrats' case fell apart, they struggled to make their hyperbolic claims stick and so neither article of impeachment names a specific high crime or misdemeanor. By any objective standard, it is the thinnest case imaginable. The bottom line is President Trump has not committed an impeachable offense, and I was proud to vote against the articles of impeachment this week. USMCA Passes House After months of delays, Michigan workers have another reason to be optimistic about the economy thanks to passage ofH.R. 5430, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) Implementation Act. Passing the USMCA will put NAFTA in the rearview mirror and helplevel the playing field for farmers, workers, and manufacturers. With the USMCA, Michigan will be in a stronger economic position, boosting our state's manufacturing and agriculture sectors and creating many more good-paying job opportunities. Strengthening Retirement Security All Americans deserve a financially secure retirement. Yet for too many families, having enough money in their golden years is a source of constant worry and uncertainty. That is why I was proud to see my bipartisan Increasing Access to a Secure Retirement Actpass the House this week. Once it is signed into law, it will make it easier for employers to offer broader savings options for their employees, taking an important step in removing barriers for Americans as they work to achieve a financially secure retirement. Supporting the Great Lakes This week I voted forfunding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund, Soo Locks, and other important Michigan priorities. The GLRI received its most amount of federal resources$320 millionsince the program's inception in 2010. These initiativeswill help generate more good-paying jobs and secure a healthier future for our state. Improving Rural Broadband Rep.Peter Welch (D-VT) and I led a bipartisan letter signed by 52 colleagues to FCC Chairman Ajit Pai about improving access to rural broadband. Our letter requests that the upcoming FCC Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) program prioritize future-proof broadband deployment and strong accountability measures to help close the digital divide throughout the country.Too many citizens don't have access to these services and we need to encourage future-proofing broadband deployment so rural areas will no longer be left behind in the digital era.
