H.R. 6 includes two bipartisan bills authored by Representatives Tim Walberg (MI-07) and Debbie Dingell (MI-12), Jessie's Law and the Safe Disposal of Unused Medication Act. This final bipartisan agreement between the House and Senate is expected to move swiftly through both chambers and to the President's desk. "We lose more than 100 Americans every day to the opioid crisis, devastating the dreams of people we know and love. I have heard many of these heartbreaking stories at treatment centers, community forums, and meetings with families across Michigan's 7th District," said Walberg. "Today's bipartisan agreement represents the type of collaborative approach we need to tackle this epidemic from every angle, turn the tide of addiction, and save lives in our communities. I am pleased my bipartisan provisions are incorporated in this landmark legislation, and I look forward to it becoming law very soon." Jessie's Law is named after Michigan resident Jessie Grubb who tragically died of an opioid overdose in 2016. Jessie's Law will help ensure doctors have access to a consenting patient's prior history of addiction in order to make fully informed care and treatment decisions. The Safe Disposal of Unused Medication Act will help prevent the misuse or diversion of unused medications by equipping hospice professionals with the legal authority to safely dispose of unused drugs after a hospice patient's death. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee and the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force, Congressman Walberg has been a leader on collaborating on and developing solutions to address the opioid crisis.
