The Medal of Honor Priority Care Act was included as part of a larger bill to enhance care and resources for veterans, the Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act. "Every veteran who answers America's call to service is owed our deepest respect and access to high quality care," said Walberg. "There are an elite few, the bravest of the brave, who displayed extraordinary heroism and selflessness in going above and beyond the call of duty. For the service members who were awarded our nation's highest military decoration, it is only fitting that they should be placed in the highest priority group that the VA has to offer." The Medal of Honor is the nation's highest medal for valor in combat that can be awarded to members of the armed forces. Under the current system, Medal of Honor recipients are allocated to Priority Group 3 in the VA's priority scale to determine eligibility for health care services.
