Greg Walden (R-Ore.) today announced that the 2014 Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery, is now open to high school students throughout Oregon's Second Congressional District, which includes central, southern and eastern Oregon. The contest is a nationwide endeavor for students to showcase their artistic abilities while competing for the chance to have their work displayed in the United States Capitol. I encourage all high school students in Oregon's Second District to share their artwork as part of this year's Artistic Discovery' competition. This is a tremendous opportunity for young people interested in art, and it gives students the chance to have their work showcased for a national audience, said Walden. To enter the Congressional Art Competition, students must submit no more than two photographs of their work to Walden's office by Monday, May 5, 2014. After artwork is received, a panel of experts will choose one winner and runners-up. The winner will have their artwork displayed in the national student art exhibit in the U.S. Capitol. The winner will also receive complimentary round-trip airfare for two to Washington, D.C. to view the full exhibit and attend a reception honoring the student's talent. Runners-up will have their artwork displayed in one of Walden's offices in Oregon in Bend, Medford, La Grande, or Hood River. To enter the contest, students must submit no more than two pieces of artwork and the Student Information & Release Form by May 5, 2014.
