Last week, Representative Greg Walden (R-Hood River) stopped by the Crooked River Ranch Fire Station to celebrate President Trump signing the Crooked River Ranch Fire Protection Act and talk with local residents and officials about fire safety. "The Crooked River Ranch legislation is critical for the safety of the more than 5,000 people living in the area,"said Walden."I am proud to have worked with local leaders, advocates, first responders, and community members on this bill. This bipartisan bill enables us to reduce the fire fuel loads that put the community in jeopardy. It was great to celebrate this win with so many of the people that made it possible. Hearing from the BLM that they will begin implementation of this new law and start thinning work this winter is welcome news. I look forward to continuing to work with the community and the BLM to ensure this needed fire prevention work gets done." Representative Walden (center right) attends a signing ceremony of his legislation to protect Crooked River Ranch from wildfire. The legislation, which President Trump signed into law in March, was introduced by Walden to protect the central Oregon community from wildfire. The bill will allow for needed management of the fire fuels that surround Crooked River Ranch in Jefferson and Deschutes counties, which will reduce the risk of wildfire for the approximately 5,500 residents living at the Ranch. Representative Walden meets with Crooked River Ranch Student Firefighters. While at the Crooked River Fire Station, Walden had the chance to meet with the student firefighters and learn about their experiences fighting wildfires. "Our firefighters deserve our utmost thanks and respect,"said Walden."It was great to meet and thank the young, brave student firefighters at Crooked River Ranch. They could choose to spend their summer in many ways, but they chose to serve our community. Their service and sacrifice, as well as that of all first responders, is something I am truly grateful for."
