Greg Walden (R-Ore.) has been named a 2014 Champion of Change honoree by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) in recognition of his efforts to improve the lives of people with disabilities. I am honored to be recognized by the National Down Syndrome Society, but it is the individuals with disabilities, their families, and the volunteers that support them who deserve the true recognition. Their efforts inspire me to continue to work hard to raise awareness and improve the lives of people with disabilities and their families, Walden said. Walden is a co-sponsor of the Achieving Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act (H.R. 647). The bill seeks to ease the financial strains faced by individuals with disabilities by creating tax-free savings accounts to cover expenses such as housing, education, and transportation. It would provide individuals with disabilities the same kind of flexible spending accounts other Americans have access to, like health savings accounts and college savings accounts. The NDSS annually presents Champion of Change honors to Members of Congress who have worked to advance policies that support people with Down syndrome.
